THE AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE CELEBRATION

A group of tribal leaders, educators, community leaders, and health care professionals joined in organizing this day-long event to honor and celebrate American Indian/Native Alaskan heritage, and the presence and survival of American Indian/Indigenous communities of the Santa Clara Valley . This is the third event of its kind in Santa Clara County.

The main objectives of the American Indian Heritage Celebration are to:

• Engender unity among all Native / Indigenous Peoples and the geographical community of the Santa Clara Valley through cultural sharing and educational programs on American Indian history and heritage.

•  Provide health and wellness education focusing on issues that specifically target the American Indian/Indigenous community (i.e. diabetes, heart disease, substance abuse, and mental health).

•  Celebrate life and promote strength, survival and prosperity for Indigenous Peoples and all communities.

The program includes honoring ceremonies for American Indian Elders and Veterans, singing, drumming, dancing, sports activities, arts & crafts for children, storytelling, traditional games, as well as cultural workshops and informational booths for children, teenagers and adults. A special menu for diabetics will be available throughout the day.

We look forward to you joining us this year!
